Naseema Khan works in many different media with a specialization
in photography. Not only is her choice of subject matter
carefully considered, she is gifted at alternative and
unique methods of presentation. Khan has been exhibiting
with the gallery for a number of years and
works full time as a professional photographer
Khan's first photographic series involving graphic depictions of fruit was exhibited in the show
"The Surreality of Reality" at the gallery. It later evolved into "Beyond Good and Evil", a photographic study
inspired by Frederich Neitzche. This is a monumental text that questions truth and analyzes cultures,
especially that of Christianity and challenges the very definition of meaning and reason.
In this series of artworks, severed fragments of Neitzsche's text are overlayered and
intertwined with representative fruit images in an attempt to unveil the vocabulary
of meaning we all subconsciously ascribe to. The text has been physically inserted
into the flesh of the fruit, and in some cases wrapped round as if a cloak or shroud.
The finished work evokes a sense of the complex layers of meaning we develop in our own lives.
This interaction of words, taken from the text of one of our most esteemed philosophers
and coupled with the iconic forms of the fruit, suggests many stories
that beg not only to be critiqued but told.
